Hearts and minds: Factory Records, Peter Saville and the codified language

thesis
posted on 2025-05-09, 22:20 authored by Kristen Hayden
This dissertation investigates Manchester music label and pop cultural phenomenon that was FACTORY Records. This dissertation proposes that as a Graphic Designer we are all indebted to what has come before us, but it is how we interpret these ideas and concepts that truly reflect our talent as a designer. It explores the idea that if this creativity is embraced and applied through the design process it will result in more diverse and innovative design. The paper used the label and iconic Graphic Designer Peter Saville as a basis for research and reflection as well as outlining my own practices as a young Designer. I believe that with a greater understanding and respect for what has come before us, the relationship between personal identity and output can help produce the best possible results in the field of design, whatever the discipline may be.
