This factsheet expands on the themes explored at Hunter Insight Series: Youth Perspectives, hosted by the University of Newcastle’s Institute for Regional Futures. Youth Perspectives provided a space for young Hunter community members to engage in conversation on the wide spectrum of social, economic and environmental issues they face. Facilitated by Institute Executive Director Professor Roberta Ryan, a diverse youth panel shared their views on crucial issues such as housing, migration, economic transition, First Nations equity and wellbeing. The Institute for Regional Futures recognises the significant social, cultural, spatial and economic contribution of regional Australia to the nation and is invested in realising its vast potential. Based in the Hunter, the Institute is of and for regions, with a focus on delivering interdisciplinary impact research on regions and regionalism nationally and internationally. The work of the Institute builds on the 60-plus year history of the Hunter Research Foundation Centre.
