This factsheet expands on the themes explored at Hunter Insight Series: Unlocking the Hunter’s future workforce, hosted by The University of Newcastle’s Institute for Regional Futures. At Unlocking the Hunter’s future workforce, a panel of experts in education, training and workforce development took a deep dive into what the future job market might look like and how we can support our current and future workers to be well-equipped for employment in emerging industries. These insights are derived from the Institute’s second Regions Matter survey, conducted in late 2023. This factsheet builds on the findings in Hunter Horizons: Navigating the future of work and workplaces in our region, released June 2024 in partnership with NGM Group. The Institute for Regional Futures recognises the significant social, cultural, spatial and economic contribution of regional Australia to the nation and is invested in realising its vast potential. Based in the Hunter, the Institute is of and for regions, with a focus on delivering interdisciplinary impact research on regions and regionalism nationally and internationally. The work of the Institute builds on the 60-plus year history of the Hunter Research Foundation Centre.
