Young people experience high levels of over-indebtedness, and are the key consumers of new forms of consumer credit such as ‘Buy Now Pay Later’ services. This report details the outcomes of a research project conducted by social scientists at the University of Newcastle which explored the social context and experience of credit and debt in young people’s lives. It included an analysis of policy frameworks and credit services, as well as interviews
and workshops with young people who described their lived experiences of credit and debt. It is the first Australian project to explore credit and debt from young people’s own perspective.
