Quality Teaching @ UON evaluated the potential benefits of applying the Quality Teaching (QT) model and the Quality Teaching Rounds (QTR) process for enhancing teaching at the University of Newcastle. The QT model has been used extensively in NSW government schools with robust evidence from a randomised controlled trial (RCT) demonstrating significant positive effects on the quality of teaching, teacher morale and sense of recognition (Gore et al., 2017). Our more recent RCT (2019-2020), funded by the Paul Ramsay Foundation, has shown significant positive effects on student learning, with stronger effects in more disadvantaged contexts (Gore et al., under review). The QT@UON pilot study was conducted to inform efforts to support and improve the quality of teaching across the University’s campuses.
