Through 2024, the Circular Economy Living Lab (CELL) conducted a feasibility project to assess the potential of establishing a circular economy (CE) precinct in Morisset, including the area surrounding Eraring Power Station. CELL is a partnership of Lake Macquarie City Council, DANTIA, and the University of Newcastle. Currently in an establishment phase, CELL seeks to drive momentum for change in the Hunter region in the circular economy. The precinct assessment reviewed the barriers and opportunities for establishing a circular economy precinct within the context of Lake Macquarie, and specifically the Morisset Peninsula. Through this assessment, the technical, economic, environmental, and social feasibility was evaluated, resulting in a value proposition for a circular economy precinct that has been market-tested and community-endorsed. The outcome provides CELL partners with a business case to help draw investment to the region.
