The map interpolates five historical surveys: ‘An Eye Sketch of Hunter’s River’ (Shortland, 1797); ‘Coal Harbour and Rivers’ (Barrallier, 1801); Port Hunter and its Branches (Port Hunter and its branches, New South Wales [cartographic material], 1819); 1844’s George Boyle White survey (White, 1844); and, 1871 Survey by Lieutenant John Thomas Gowlland (Gowlland, 1871).
