Various Indo-European languages form verbs by attaching a prepositional prefix to a verbal stem. Ancient Greek had verbs containing two such prefixes. In this paper I study one verb with two prepositional prefixes, διεκπλέω, the basic meaning of which is given as "sail out through" by Liddell & Scott (1940:424). The main issue to be dealt with is how the complements (in a broad sense) of this verb are marked, in particular, how are the places being sailed from and through indicated, and did this change in the history of Greek?
