Claudio Saracini (1586-1630), "Ahi che mi fà languire" (Le Seste Musiche, 1624), and "Ingrata lusinghiera" (Le Quinte Musiche, 1624) ed. Rosalind Halton. Saracini was a contemporary of Claudio Monteverdi, the pioneer of opera and vocal declamation (monody). Saracini, whose works for solo voice and chordal accompaniment are still hardly known or performed, was an innovator in harmony, text setting, and writing for the solo voice, as illustrated in the performance of these pieces by Christopher Allan (baritone) and Rosalind Halton (harpsichord) 2. Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741), Trio in A minor for Flute, Bassoon, bass continuo. The performance by Sally Walker (flute) Ben Hoadley (bassoon), and Rosalind Halton (harpsichord) explored the improvisatory potential of the music, and was based on the autograph score. All performers are practitioners on period instruments, and brought the knowledge of these instruments to the performance, while playing modern wind instruments.
