Theatre Royal Covent Garden: The Man of the World (playbill)

Charles Macklin's satirical comedy written in 1781 created the enduring character of Sir Pertinax Macsycophant which Macklin himself performed. Macklin's career spanned the period from the Restoration to the end of the 18th century as actor, manager and playwright.
