Spaxels (space + pixels) consists of computer programmed LED-equipped (Light Emitting Diode) quadcopters launched into physcial environments which can be urban, natural or both. The quodcotpers are generated by algorithms to make up a drone swarm that can “draw” three-dimensional figures in mid air above the audience’s heads. Horst Hörtner in association with Ars Electronica researchers Chris Bruckmayr, Andreas Jalsovec, Michael Mayr, Martin Mörth, Patrick Müller, Benjamin Olsen and Michael Platz. This research has been shown in Europe, Australia and in several Arabic countries. A recent iteration was in a presentation at the Brisbane Festival's Robotronica (2013)
