Frank Benson (1858-1939) was a noted Shakespearian actor and was largely responsible for the annual Shakespeare festival at Stratford in the period 1886-1919. An extraordinary personality known as much for his devotion to cricket as for his performances in Shakespeare. Many actors who were to become distinguished on stage and screen began their careers in his touring company.
