This chapter highlights the consequences of political terror and displacement, focusing primarily on their impact on family dynamics in refugee camps and following resettlement in another country. Despite geographical and cultural variances, the literature reveals remarkable consistencies in the experiences of refugee families. The chapter begins with a discussion of the nature and relational consequences of the trauma experienced by individuals and families. Thereafter, these stressors are examined across the stages of the refugee experience, particularly in relation to their effects on family dynamics.
