In this chapter we will concentrate on the appropriateness of teachers-as-researchers and the potential of specific research methodologies teachers can adopt to improve their practice. Following a brief review of historical trends in educational research, we will explore a number of contemporary issues so that you can decide your future research role, and follow-up with a few examples from recent studies.
